Thematic Focus

The main thematic focus of the SEIP Project is:

  • Industrial waste water management [waste water treatment, reuse and recycle; conveyance systems, disposal systems, monitoring systems; business/management models for infrastructure and services; technology transfer and technology facilitation mechanism]
  • Industrial and commercial waste management [co-processing of waste, hazardous waste management, sewage sludge management, business/management models for infrastructure and services, technology transfer and technology facilitation mechanism]

SEIP has focus on the following fields of intervention/outputs:


 

Field of Intervention – 1

[Output A]

Environment-oriented modernization of industrial areas (showcasing in industrial areas)

[Output B]
 Enabling framework on state and national level

 Field of Intervention – 3
[Output C] 
 Knowledge management and dissemination

Major focus will be on Output A to showcase results, while Output B and Output C will be required to support quality deliverables of Output A, as well as for taking forward the results of Output A for their sustainability and replication.

Details of the planned “Outputs” are given below.

 

Field of Intervention – 1 [OUTPUT A]: Environment-oriented modernization of industrial areas (showcasing in industrial areas)

Output objective: Selected industrial areas have visibly improved their environmental performance and resource-efficiency, respecting gender equity.

Focus: “Showcasing” of verifiable solutions in three selected industrial areas in three different States. As a result, the pollution levels measured show reduction on an average by 20%.

Main activities:

The site specific activities for the selected project sites in the 3 states include:

  • Solutions for industrial waste water management – conveyance, treatment, disposal
  • Solutions for continuous/online monitoring systems for industrial wastewater
  • Solutions for waste management – sewage sludge, recyclable wastes
  • Solutions for pollution reduction and resource efficiency in industries
  • Management structures for industrial areas

The implemented measures will be targeted at individual industry level as well as at industrial park level. Measures for modifying or upgrading of the existing infrastructure will be given a priority considering the 3 year term of the project. For the new infrastructure requirements, concepts will be developed and provided, including suggestive business and financing models. Exchange of experience and results among the project partners within the project, as will with secondary stakeholders outside the project, will be facilitated. 

Field of Intervention – 2 [OUTPUT B]: Enabling framework on state and national level

Output objective: Policies, plans and support programs at national and state levels support the promotion of efficient environmental and climate friendly industry development.

Focus: Identify gaps and suggest new policies/plans/support programmes for application at national and state level to support the promotion of efficient environmental and climate friendly industry production.

Key activities:

  • Proposals on new measures under policies/plans/programmes for supporting in pollution reduction and resource efficiency. The may include:
    • New enforcement directives for industries (tannery)
    • Policy measures on skills development of operators of wastewater treatment plants
    • Guidelines for common effluent treatment plants
    • Guidelines for “zero liquid discharge”
  • Environmental Technology Platform – technology information and transfer on industrial wastewater.
  • Green rating and certification system for industrial areas
  • Replication, upscaling in other industrial areas

 

Field of Intervention – 3 [OUTPUT C]: Knowledge management and dissemination

Output objective: Knowledge-base and human capacities are strengthened on good management practices and best available technologies for an efficient, and environment and climate friendly industry development.

Focus: To identify and compile relevant practical knowledge, and systematically manage it for sharing with others. To strengthen knowledge-base and human as well as organisational capacities.

Key activities:

  • Skills development for technicians of wastewater treatment plants
  • Success stories documentation
  • Documentation – case examples, publications, factsheets,
  • Dissemination - web site/web pages, conferences, workshops etc.
