Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoHUPA) in collaboration with GIZ India showcases Government of India initiatives at PrepCom3 of the HABITAT III

The third session of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom3) of the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) was held in Surabaya, Indonesia, from 25 July to 27 July 2016 at the Convention and Exhibition Hall Grand City Convex Surabaya, Indonesia.

An Exhibition was organised in PrepCom3 showcasing projects, innovations, and solutions from member states, stakeholders, and organizations working on housing and sustainable urban development. Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoHUPA), Government of India had put up an exhibition showcasing various initiatives undertaken  by India with a view to harness the opportunities and addresses the challenges posed by urbanisation. In all, over 60 exhibitors participated at the PrepCom3 exhibition. The stall was inaugurated by Dr. Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Housing of the Republic of Indonesia in the presence of Indian delegation led by Mr. Rajeev Ranjan Mishra, Joint Secretary (Housing), MoHUPA. Various dignitaries including Dr. Joan Clos, Secretary General of the Habitat III Conference, Delegation leader of Czech Republic, Delegation from Sudan and other key stakeholders, partner agencies visited the Government of India stall over the three day period.

Apart from the exhibition, 142 different countries discussed the New Urban Agenda before the Habitat III Conference in Quito that would be able to integrate all facets of sustainable development to promote equity, welfare, and shared prosperity. Team from GIZ India’s Inclusive Cities Partnership Programme also participated in the PrepCom3 meeting, along with the Indian Delegation to discuss various urbanisation issues in India.
