Meetings for “Best Available Techniques Reference Document for Textile Sector” of Gujarat

The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) is taking steps to prepare customised Best Available Techniques Reference Documents for Textile Sector in Gujarat so as to support the industries in improving environmental compliance. The German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) is providing technical and advisory support to GPCB bringing with it the experiences from Germany and Europe. GIZ coordinating the support under the Sustainable and Environment-friendly Industrial Production Project of the Indo German Development Cooperation.

The officials of the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) visited GPCB Gandhinagar during May 23rd to 27th, 2016 and held series of meetings and brainstorming sessions with GPCB officials to finalise various aspects for initiating the preparation of such a customised document, including detailing a “written procedure” (Guidance Document), defining the “Process Line Out” (Action Plan for BREF Process in Gujarat), to finalise ToRs for the Technical Working Group (TWG) and the Author that would prepare a base document on the textiles sector. Discussions were held about key environment issues in textile sector to be considered and preparation of questionnaire for textile sector.

Ms. Brigitte Zietlow and Ms. Almut Reichart were present from UBA Germany. The participants included GPCB’s core team at head office and respective regional officers, proposed author (Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre), industry and association representative from respective textile clusters (Ahmedabad, Surat & Jetpur) and Mr Nitesh Patel from GIZ’s Cell at Vapi.

A general interactive session was held on BAT documents for Chemical, Dye & Intermediate, Pharmaceuticals and Pesticides for industry representative of Vapi GIDC for information and awareness towards possibility for development of BREF document in organic chemical sector in future by GPCB.
