World Environment Day Celebration and Launching of Industrial Estate Environment Improvement Drive

The month long Industrial Estate Environment Improvement Drive, conceptualized by GIZ and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, was kick started in GIDC Industrial Estate, Vapi on June 5, 2015 on the occasion of the World Environment Day. The Drive is seen as an important step by the Vapi Industries Association to fulfill the dream of Vapi Banse Vrindavan.
The World Environment Day celebrations and the launching of Industrial Estate Environment Improvement Drive was jointly organized by the Vapi Industries Association in cooperation with GPCB, GIDC, Notified Area Authority and Vapi Waste & Effluent Management Company Ltd. and GIZ. The celebration function was held at Aarti Garden, Chanod Colony, GIDC Industrial Estate, Vapi.
The function was inaugurated by the District Collector of Valsad Dr. Vikrant Pande IAS in the presence of Mr. Satish Wagh, Chairman, CHEMEXCIL, Mr. Kanubhai Desai, MLA, Pardi, Mr. A G Patel, Regional Officer, GPCB, Vapi, Mr. Harishbhai Patel, Chief Officer, Notified Area Authority (NAA), Mr. Sharad Thakar, President, VIA, Shri Kirit Shastri, Hon. Secretary, VIA, Mr. A K Shah, Director, VWEMCL, Mr. Rajesh Doshi, Executive Director, VWEMCL, Mr. Kirit Mehta, Director, Aarti Industries Ltd., past Presidents and committee members of VIA, senior officers of CHEMEXCIL, various NGOs of Vapi, residents of Chanod Colony and Press & Media friends.
An oath was taken by all present to keep the residential areas and the industrial area clean, maintain good housekeeping, follow environment friendly production process and undertake plantation of trees. The District Collector appreciated the initiative taken by the authorities and the stakeholders on Vapi Banse Vrindavan. The President of Vapi Industries Association (VIA) said that the Association has been taking various initiatives for the last few years for the environmental improvement of estate and the surrounding areas and has always got support from the regulatory authorities in doing so. He shared that during the last WED 2013 mass tree plantation was initiated in a particular area of the estate and as of today over 20,000 trees have survived creating a beautiful ambience.
This year also VIA plans to plant more than 21,000 trees during the month long drive, in and around the industrial estate, with the support of the industry members and the Notified Area Authority (NAA). The plantation drive was initiated on the occasion of the launch of WED with the support of M/s Aarti Industries Ltd. and about 250 trees were planted surrounding the part of the Chanod Garden, which is going to be developed by M/s Aarti Industries Ltd. with the support of NAA and VIA.
The cleaning drive of the estate has also been initiated. NAA has extended its support by dedicating a team of 50 workers, 3 JCBs and 10 tractors for the cleaning work. GPCB has also dedicated its staff members for guiding the works. About 200 industry members were given responsibility to supervise the day to day cleaning work. Besides, many other activities such as environmental rallies, competitions for school children, seminars and interaction meets are also planned.
The regulatory authorities, government departments, industries association and industry members are all geared up to make the dream of Vapi Banse Vrindavan come true.
