Two-day International Conference on “Planning of New Industrial Parks and Investment Zones”
A two-day International Conference on “Planning of New Industrial Parks and Investment Zones” was organized on October 07-08, 2013 at the India Habit Centre, New Delhi by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment & Forestry of the Government of India, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise of the Government of India, Industries Commissionerate of the Government of Gujarat, Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB), Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre (GCPC) and the Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of Andhra Pradesh (ALEAP).
The conference programme was divided into two days. Beside a Warm-Up Session and the Inaugural Session, three technical sessions were held on October 7, 2013. The Warm-Up Session was an introduction to the Conference’s topic of “Planning of New Industrial Parks and Investment Zones”. Speakers from China, Tunisia and India outlined the present situation of Industrial development in their countries and international case examples.
In the Inaugural Session, key note address was delivered by the Chief Guest Mr. Madhav Lal, Secretary of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India. Mr. Stefan Helming, Country Director of GIZ (India) and Dr. G.V. Subrahmanyam, Advisor of the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India addressed the participants. Dr. Dieter Mutz, Director of Indo-German Environment Programme, GIZ (India) welcomed the Guests of Honour, speakers and the participants. Ms. Rama Devi, President of ALEAP gave vote of thanks.
After the Inaugural Session, the Warm-up Session continued with the topic of Industrial Park Development in Gujarat. The focus of thesecond Technical Session was on “Siting/Land Use of Industrial Parks and Investment Zones”. During this session, speakers from India and Tunisia shared their experiences about Land use for Industrial Development.
The third Technical Session was dedicated to the subject of “Planning of Industrial Parks and Investment Zones” in which speakers from India, Turkey, Bangladesh and Indonesia provided interesting insights into their experiences related to the session’s topic.
The second day of the Conference, Tuesday October 08, 2013 was divided into 3 technical sessions followed by Valedictory Session. The focus of the fourth technical session was on the aspect of “Retrofitting of Existing Industrial Parks”. Speakers from Germany, Tunisia, China and India shared their experiences from their countries about the rehabilitation of Industrial Parks. “Green Rating System and Planning Standards” was the topic of the fifth technical session. Speakers from India and Germany presented methodologies and approaches on how to develop Industrial Parks with focus on sustainable development. The last technical session’s topic was “Technological Aspects in Planning & Retrofitting”. This session was shared by speakers from India, Germany and China and gave technical insights into different subjects like waste water management, energy and resource efficiency in Industrial Parks.
The Valedictory Session of the two-day International Conference on “Planning of New Industrial Parks and Investment Zones”was addressed by Dr. Dieter Mutz, Director, Indo German Environment Partnership (IGEP) Programme, GIZ (India), Dr. Heinz Eduard Vest, GIZ (China), Ms. Sheela Bhide, Ex. IAS officer and currently independent director on the board of Coal India Ltd. and the “Guest of Honour”, Mr. Pradeep Chandra, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The conference was attended by participants and delegations from India, China, Tunisia, Algeria, Indonesia, Turkey and Germany.
