Training Programme on "Planning of New Industrial Parks”

October 1-11, 2013; Hyderabad

GIZ organized three training programmes on “Planning of New Green Industrial Parks Investment Zones” during October 1-11, 2013 in Hyderabad. The training programme is a part of the Indo German Environment Partnership (IGEP) Programme of the Indo German Development Cooperation. 

The training programmes were conducted by Mr. Jochen Rabe, Head, Central Europe, Happlod Consulting. He is specialized in the fields of Corporate Sustainability Strategies, Integrated Urbanism, Sustainable and Green Infrastructure, Innovation and Systems Thinking. He has over 20 years’ experience in major development projects both in the UK, Germany, Russia and overseas. Jochen has extensive expertise in running multi-disciplinary teams working on a wide range of major projects. These cover corporate sustainability strategies, regional development plans, strategic plans for major developments, feasibility studies, asset management, urban design and environmental assessment through to detailed design, project implementation and post-occupancy management.

The three training programs, viz. 1-day Orientation Programme for APIIC Officials, 2-day training programme for Consultants and 3-day training programme for Government Officials focused on:


  • Planning systems and procedures
  • Green rating systems
  • Suggestions for incorporation of green aspects in the new Industrial Parks
  • Case examples

Details are given below.

One-day Orientation Programme for APIIC Officials

1-day Orientation Programme was conducted on October 1, 2013 at The Park hotel. About 16 participants from APIIC participated in the orientation programme, which focused on re-planning of Site Master Plans for three industrial parks of APIIC namely, APSEZ Vizag, MPSEZ, Nellore and GIP Jedcherla.

Mr. Jochen Rabe, Head, Central Europe, Happlod Consulting made relevant presentations. Presentation on the status of the 3 industrial parks was made by the General Manager (EMP) of APIIC.  During the programme, three working groups were formed each of which worked on the missing aspects/infrastructure in the existing industrial parks and on what should be incorporated for re-planning.


Two Day Training Programme for Consultants

Two-day training programme was conducted on October 3-4, 2013 at The Park hotel for the consultants. The participants were from CII, Murthy and Manyam, ALEAP, Auroville Foundation, SENES, Ramky etc. A German case study was used for the training programme. Group was divided into 3-teams and it was a combination of lectures and practice.

Three Day Training Programme for Government Officials

The 3-day programme was conducted on October 9-11, 2013. The programme concentrated on theme by theme development for an industrial park. This was followed by intense discussions among the participants. Three groups were formed which worked on GIP Jedcherla, of APIIC. Each team came out with a 5 year plan for the development of GIP Jedcherla based on the priorities and requirements.
