MoU signed between GIZ (IGEP) and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board

to promote state-of-the-art environmental management and pollution control in the state of Gujarat

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between GIZ (IGEP) and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board on April 06, 2013 to promote state-of-the-art environmental management and pollution control in the state of Gujarat. The MoU was signed by Mr. Hardik Shah, Member Secretary of the Gujarat Pollution Control Board and by Dr Dieter Mutz, Director of IGEP Programme.

The MoU is valid until February 2015. Under this MoU, the scope of cooperation includes:

§   Capacity development of GPCB, including organisational development and human resources development in preventing and controlling pollution in the state of Gujarat.

§   Piloting and replication of innovative and financially sustainable solutions of the environment addressing the identified core environmental issues, viz. waste & wastewater management, and environment friendly techniques for identified industry sectors.

§   Ensuring environmentally sound establishment of new industrial parks and investment zones. 

The expected outcomes from the MoU are:

§   Capacities of GPCB, both organisational and human resources, are developed.

§   Knowledge base is strengthened in GPCB.

§   Pilot measures are demonstrated addressing core issues related to environmental management and pollution problems in identified industries/sectors, waste & wastewater management, and establishment of new industrial parks/investment zones, and successful models are up-scaled/replicated in Gujarat for ensuring sustainable development of Gujarat.
