November 16th to 22nd, 2012 in Vapi (Gujarat)
The field visit GIZ experts to Vapi in connection with the demonstrative work on “Performance Improvement of the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at GIDC Industrial Estate, Vapi (Gujarat)” took place during 16th to 22nd of November, 2012. Prof. Christian Kazner from the Institute for Ecopreneurship, School of Life Sciences, University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Northwestern Switzerland and Mr. Mario Ospelt from Hunziker Betatech, Zurich, Switzerland visited the CETP to study the performance improvement needs. The experts from the Institute for Ecopreneurship are providing technical support, on behalf of GIZ, under the Indo German Bilateral Development Cooperation.
GIZ has undertaken pilot study on Vapi CETP on demonstration basis under the Indo German Development Cooperation, in cooperation with the Vapi Waste & Effluent Management Company Ltd. (VWEMCL). The CETP has a capacity of 55 MLD and is catering to several chemical, dyes, paper and other industries. The CETP has issues related sludge handling, requirements for additions to treatment units, need for improved operation and management etc.
During the field visits, the international experts looked into the performance of various units of CETP, including sludge handling, and identified specific areas of problem in the existing CETP, including technological, operational and management aspects. The experts will soon be submitting a detailed report which is expected to help in pilot testing the proposed treatment options and accordingly based on the results, the designing for up-scaling could be undertaken.
