Stakeholder Workshop on “Waste and Climate Change”
7 November, 2012 at Claridges Hotel
To shed light on cross-cutting issues of waste management and climate change, a stakeholder workshop was held on 7 November, 2012 at Claridges Hotel, New Delhi. Relevant stakeholders, including Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of New & Renewal Energy, State Officials and Municipal Officials, Waste Management Companies and NGOs discussed the current waste management situation in India and possible future developments. They also took into consideration co-benefit of managing municipal solid waste to climate protection.
The workshop also focused on exchange of German experiences with municipalities. The workshop included the presentation of a new “Aid to Decision Making” (ADM) Tool developed by GIZ-Indo German Environmental Partnership (IGEP) Program with the support of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (IFEU), Heidelberg. The ADM tool provides a technical and professional help on evaluating different waste treatment options (economic, environmental, climate and social aspects) and their impact to Indian municipalities.
The workshop took place within the Indo-German Environmental Partnership (IGEP) framework and was supported by the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) of Germany and the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research.
